Challenge

87% of young people diagnosed with cancer have lost contact with their peers, and 83% experience loneliness. Teens Unite's primary goal is to support young people fighting cancer to improve their social and peer networks, and to build long-lasting, life changing relationships.

Solution

Our Annual Activity Stay brings together 20 young people, at all stages of their cancer fight, to experience independent living, learn new skills, express and challenge themselves, surrounded by peers in a fun, safe, energetic and positive environment. Over the course of the Stay, the young people have the opportunity to take part in workshops and activities from all of our Positive Steps Programs.

Long-Term Impact

91% of young people leaving the last Stay reported now having a strong support network. Nobody left the Stay feeling lonely and there was a dramatic decrease of 83% towards feeling of isolation. The Stay encourages a positive outlook, increases confidence and self-esteem. Uniting young people who genuinely understand what it is like to face cancer in teenage years creates strong connections where it becomes more natural and easy to chat, to share and to trust, long lasting relationships follow.
