Challenge

As much as Colombia's economy has grown in the past few years, many teenagers and young adults still face several challenges growing up in poor areas with limited opportunities, suffering from problems including discrimination, social and economic inequality and violence. The country's unemployment rate for young people is around 23%, which not only increases economic inequity but also helps push them into joining outlaw or armed rebel groups in the hopes of earning a living through illicit mean

Solution

Developing new skills in programming and software development will help these young people further develop their careers with related abilities such as English and problem-solving. This will not only help meet the growing demand in the technology fields but will also promote local economic growth. Companies will receive necessary talent, while the young people will receive stimulating employment to improve their families' quality of life and contribute to their communities.

Long-Term Impact

Dedicated spaces for teaching young people from the most vulnerable social classes programming and software development offer a powerful force for lasting change. Our program will create capable young professionals for an increasingly demanding market and will give them the tools to advance their long-term careers. Programming is an exercise in critical thinking and develops a person's mind to tackle challenges well beyond a computer screen to transform their lives and build a better world.
