This project will provide a sustainable solution to the people of Likoni Community in Kenya who have for a long time suffered the disastrous effects of Mosquito caused diseases and waterborne diseases that have caused deaths and severe illnesses. We seek to clean the community as whole up to 1000 houses which are a home to about 24,000 families. We intend to clear all dumping sites and make beautiful gardens out of them and implement a waste management plan that we and the community came up with
Likoni as a whole has experienced unmanaged dumping of waste materials both solid and liquid wastes. With the population of about 70,000 people and unplanned housing structures, waste management has posed a challenge to the local authorities. With the drastic rise of numerous and scattered dumping zones there has been a rise to diseases that have caused deaths to many people. Clearing of these garbage will drastically reduce the effect of diseases and we are going to affect about 24,000 families
Through this project we are going clear and reduce all dumping zones to 0 percent and provide a properly managed waste management system through periodic picking of wastes and depositing them in the county designated zone. Also we shall make gardens out of the cleared dumping zones. Houses that are not able to dig soak pits shall be provided with the soak pits and eradicate all stagnating water. We shall provide civic education on management of waste from domestic level to community level.
The Project will clear all dumping zones in the community. The project will drastically reduce diseases that are caused by mosquitoes and those that are waterborne caused hence improving community health. The community shall have a working waste management system that will serve 24,000 families and will provide employment opportunity to the youths in the area at least 300 youths. The project shall have new beautiful gardens that will bring aesthetic beautification of the environment.
