Community treatment of 77 addicted Kenyan Clients

PART 1 - KAP's RECOVERY COACHES AND THEIR TASKS - 

The Coaches were selected from amongst KAP's most able and active graduated Community Trainers. Most of them received initial Abuse/Addiction Training by SAPTA (Support for Addictions Prevention & Treatment, Nairobi) in 2017, and have since undergone continuous additional training. 
The team of 4 active Kitale Town Coaches in September 2023 was expanded with 5 additional Coaches. Since then special training has been organised for them.
All show a high level of commitment, a truly big heart for the Clients they serve and, being fast learners, a commendable capacity to implement their tasks.
Their team consist of men and women, of different ages. They live in the same communities where their Clients live. These areas are in Kitale's shanty towns and Trans Nzoia's (deeply) rural communities, and are usually very vulnerable.

Their Tasks

1. Community Mobilisation of Clients for them to attend the treatment trainings;
2. Co-facilitating the Addiction Core Trainings, lasting 6 full days (in 2 blocks of three non-residential days), followed by twice monthly Continuous Education/Treatment (also called 'Refresher') Workshops;
3. Facilitating twice-Monthly Recovery Sessions in teams of two Coaches each;
4. Organising and co-facilitating termly Family Days;
5. Making regular Home-Visits to the Clients;
6. Organising and (co-) facilitating series of Addiction Psycho-Education Sessions in the community and in schools.

Current Addiction Groups (108 Clients): 
1. Kitale Old/Completion Group: 45 regular Clients.
    This group consists of the combined groups of Soko Moko, Nyota, Community of
    Hope, Folkland and Matisi Central.
2. Umoja Girls Group: 29 regular Clients
3. St. Kizito Group: 34 regular Clients

Old Addiction Groups:
1. Saboti
2. Rafiki Farm
3. Yuya Farm
currently only receive occasional attention by KAP Staffs, although active Abuse/Addiction trained Trainers ('Addiction TOTs') do take care of some follow-up to the Clients in these groups.

Additional Activities:
In the Kitale area some Clients are happily participating in KAP's newly-established SILC groups (Saving and Internal Lending Communities), whilst others are making re-usable sanitary pads, a skill which they also learned from KAP.

PART 2 - GLOBAL GIVING-FUNDED ACTIVITIES FROM 1st SEPTEMBER - 31st DECEMBER 2023
During this period there were two major (core) workshops, many home-visits, refresher workshops, recovery sessions, 1 family day and three psycho-education sessions in the community (1) and a school (2). 
Whereas for a great part these were funded by another donor, thanks to your most-appreciated GlobalGiving contributions we were able to close some funding gaps. In particular these concerned the implementation of the Recovery Coaches Supervision meeting on the 7th September 2023, two Refresher Workshops for the Community of Hope Group (1st and 22nd September 2023) and four Home-Visits in Matisi (1x), Folkland (2x) and Soko Moko (1x).
