It was all celebrations for World Read Aloud Day!
7673 students from 45 partner schools and 423 teachers celebrated World Read Aloud Day (WRAD). In advance of the WRAD Celebration held on February 5, Librarian Esther and the Literacy Team conducted a Read Aloud workshop for 45 teachers. Through engaging activities, teachers learned about the importance of reading aloud and how to effectively read a story to students. It was all smiles as they created materials for the events and practiced reading.
On World Read Aloud Day students donned colorful crowns and carried posters celebrating reading and WRAD. Teacher Samuel from Muusini shared, "We had a great time celebrating WRAD as a school." Teacher Margaret at Mang'olota PS commented, "It was my first time to celebrate WRAD!! It was so good, engaging and exciting for our students. We are thrilled that the day marked the start of library days at our school and our learners will be getting books that will boost their reading skills and improve literacy levels.
Literacy is one of Kenya Connect's six focus areas we are working to build a village of readers through our multi-pronged approach! We are grateful to our partnership with LitWorld who is the leader in celebrating WRAD!
We are also excited that since the start of the new school year, our library team has held three reading mobilization events with parents and enrolled 295 new library card holders!
