It was a joyful celebration of teachers for World Teachers Day! Over 100 teachers gathered at Kenya Connect for our 3rd Annual Teachers Recognition Awards on October 3rd. Executive Director James Musyoka asked the teachers what legacy they wanted to leave. He shared five examples: a love of learning, empowered and confident learners, kindness and compassion, critical thinking and integrity and students who become teachers in life.
Special awards were given for literacy, technology, and leadership. Catherine, an ECD teacher, received a literacy award for encouraging and helping her learners become readers. She guides them when they check out books and reads their stories to the class. Teacher Samuel was recognized with a Tech Award for his dedication to bridging the digital divide. Since his school is without internet, he brings his own router to the school so the students can access the internet and learn coding. One of the leadership awards was presented to Deputy Head Teacher Florence at the Mbaikini Girls Secondary School for her support of afterschool enrichment programs and her work in supporting the World Robotics Olympiad team.
The curriculum Support officer shared remarks. He said, "my team is so lucky to be posted in the Mwala subcounty because we have Kenya Connect. Kenya Connect has provided so many enriching programs to our teachers and learners. We are grateful."
Teachers are at the heart of our work. We appreciate their partnership and how we are advancing education together. Our annual Teacher Awards celebrates teacher champions at our partner schools.
Friends and donors like you allow us to provide teacher professional development programs and our annual awards ceremony. Thank you for continuing to make a difference through your generous support.
