Summary

AAFF operates 2 computer training centers within public schools for Afghan girls in Northern Afghanistan. Many Afghan girls do not have access to technology and lack basic knowledge of computer skills. AAFF's courses taught by qualified female Afghan teachers equip the next generation of girls with valuable computer skills that will enhance their education and equip them for a brighter future. Every year this course provides computer literacy training to hundreds of Afghan girls in grades 4-6.

Challenge

Currently, Afghanistan is the only country in the world where girls are denied education past 6th grade. Afghan girls need access to education and need to gain as many tools as possible to further their education beyond 6th grade. Many Afghan girls who are able to attend school don't have access to technology and therefore lack basic computer literacy. Equipping Afghan girls with computer literacy will give them confidence to continue learning and open doors for online learning in the future.

Solution

AAFF partners with Afghan communities to offer additional educational opportunities in computer training for hundreds of Afghan girls a year. AAFF accomplishes this by partnering with Afghan communities to offer free computer training courses to Afghan girls in 2 public schools in Northern Afghanistan. AAFF employs Afghan female teachers, some of whom are previous graduates of the course, to teach the next generation of girls the vital skills of computer literacy.

Long-Term Impact

Computer training equips Afghan girls to seek other online learning options to enhance their education at a time when educational opportunities are limited. Offering girls opportunities in computer training contributes to decreases in early marriage rates which improves girls' health and increases their ability to have employable skills. Enhancing girls' education has long-term benefits for their communities as girls make valuable contributions to the development of their community and nation.
