The untimely passing of Shai Doron in 2024 left a profound impact on all who knew him. As the former Director-General of the Jerusalem Zoo for 26 years and founder of the Israel Aquarium, Shai devoted his life to advancing conservation and wildlife education. In 2025 a remarkable project will stand as lasting tribute to Shai Doron’s contributions and vision. While we mourn his loss, we also celebrate the enduring legacy he left behind that will continue to shape the future of the Jerusalem Zoo and Israel Aquarium for generations to come.

Nestled within the iconic Noah’s Ark at the Jerusalem Zoo, the Shai Doron Center for Nature Conservation will serve as a beacon for the Zoo's commitment to global conservation efforts by highlighting the Zoo’s vital work in protecting endangered species and their habitats, both in Israel and around the world. The Center will be an immersive educational experience designed to inspire visitors to take action in safeguarding biodiversity. With an interactive exhibition space, captivating multimedia displays, and an auditorium for film screenings, it will engage and empower people of all ages. Visitors can also unwind in a newly renovated observation deck, complete with a serene café, lush garden areas, and scenic forest walkways – a perfect escape in one of the Zoo's most tranquil spots.

We have begun the planning process for project including both indoor and outdoor elements. Once the planning phase has been completed, we will begin the actual work on the exhibit. We are pleased to report that work has already begun on two aspects: an outdoor wooden sculpture, as well as the new film to be screened within the exhibit's auditorium space.

Stay tuned for more exciting developments over the coming months. Thank you for supporting this meaningful project in Shai Doron's memory.
