People living with disabilities are the most neglected/abandoned around and more so in rural setups in Africa. Focus On Rural Development group is addressing this problem by putting 20 semi permenent houses in rural Kimaeti Location of Bungoma County in Kenya to help improve the living conditions of these people.
People living with disabilities are forgotten if not neglected around the world. This situation gets worse when these people are from poor backgrounds especially in rural setting. In Africa these people are looked at as a curse to the family or viewed by the community as a punishment to one or both parents of such a child/ person. Because of these believes, thee people are not included in the main family, are less mentioned and to make it worse isolated from the main house left to live alone.
This group aims at building 20 semi houses for these people at cost of US$ 530 per unit to make their living and health better. The group also plans to sensitize the community about disability issues, mostly on causes and management. Counseling will be carried to help immediate family members cope with this challenge. We intent to help the community understand the disabled and help them get enrolled in schools and access to other essential services.
This project will help improve the living and health status of the disabled persons in our community. We hope to change the community's perception about the disabled. We hope to improve on their living conditions of the. The disabled will appreciate themselves in turn help others born with similar conditions adopt, appreciate who they are and live without fear or indimidation.
