Just a few months ago, the park rangers at the Los Patos Operations Center faced a grueling challenge. During the rainy season, the river would rise so much that no vehicle could reach the station. Yet, the rangers pushed forward, carrying their personal belongings, food supplies, and gas cylinders on foot for over three kilometers upstream. It was a physically exhausting and risky situation in one of the most remote and rainy parts of Corcovado National Park.
Thanks to the Corcovado Fund and your support through this platform, that story has changed.
We were able to purchase a large gas cylinder that will remain at Los Patos and be used during the rainy season. This means rangers will no longer need to carry small cylinders on their backs during the hardest months. Once the dry season returns and vehicles can again access the station, smaller gas tanks will be transported and refilled as needed. But for now, the forest, and its protectors, can breathe a little easier.
A Very Special Birthday
On October 24, 2025, Corcovado National Park will celebrate its 50th anniversary. Established in 1975, this natural jewel has spent half a century safeguarding one of the most biodiverse places on Earth.
To honor this milestone, we want to give Corcovado a special gift: the improvement and restoration of the La Leona Ranger Station.
Currently, La Leona has no electricity and a severely damaged water system. With the funds raised through this platform, we hope to provide rangers with decent working and living conditions, so they can continue protecting the park from threats like illegal gold mining, poaching, logging, and other environmental crimes.
And There’s More to Come!
Very soon, we’ll be announcing a unique opportunity where you could win you a luxury tour, joining the rangers on a special behind-the-scenes journey inside the park. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance to witness the conservation work firsthand and become a vital part of Corcovado’s story.
Thank you for standing with us. Together, we continue protecting this irreplaceable ecosystem.
