Ensure Digital Literacy for Marginalised in Serbia

Summary

This project will help us provide knowledge and skills for teachers, parents and young people to use digital tools including AI tools safely and responsibly to advance their learning, teaching, employability and entrepreneurship. We will develop and hold free training for 500 teachers, parents and young adults, especially female ones in Serbia on digital and AI tools, ethical, safe and responsible use of them and will develop an online library of AI-enhanced pedagogical tools for all educators.

Challenge

According to the latest official 2022 Census data, 1,376,725 citizens in Serbia over the age of 15 are completely digitally illiterate. This accounts for 24.19% or almost a quarter of the population who do not possess any of the three basic digital skills: text processing, internet browsing, and electronic communication. Whilst children are using digital tools on daily basis, neither parents, not teachers can help or support them in safe, ethical and responsible use of digital tools and AI.

Solution

We will train teachers and parents in digital literacy, safe, ethical and responsible use of digital tools and AI and protection measures from digital violence. We will support trained parents and teachers to train locally other parents and teachers to create a critical number of digitally literate adults who can share their knowledge and skills with their colleagues and neighbors. We will provide more families with stable home internet access so that they can help/support the children at home.

Long-Term Impact

The long term impact will be to educate at least 500 adults in safe, ethical and responsible use of digital skills and AI, so that they can support the children using them with as little negative effects of internet use as possible, to help increase adults' employability and entrepreneurship through digital literacy allowing them to rise out of poverty and provide more opportunities for their children to learn and continue their education.
