Appreciating others is the way to a happier world

All children want similar things. To be happy and cheerful in their company, to be part of the community of their peers and not to stand out too much. To be similar.

When the corona appeared, many children felt alienated from their environment. Differences began to be seen more and more, and poverty became more and more common among those who struggle with it every day.

Sometimes it doesn't seem like it, but just a simple kid's snack sometimes makes a big difference between kids. Those children who did not receive a snack for financial reasons felt excluded and rejected. In the past, this feeling led to feelings of inferiority.

Thanks to you, during the corona, and after it, many parents who could not provide their children with a snack at school due to dismissal or job loss, were grateful to you that their children were also part of a group to which they belong by all means.

Sometimes injustices are bigger than we. Sometimes we can influence someone's life to be filled with joy. Be always on the side of kindness and humanity. Appreciating others is the way to a happier world.

COVID-19 and a Change in Sanda`s Life

Sometimes we are not even aware how hard COVID-19 was for us, with the economy, societies around the globe, and especially for vulnerable people.

In Serbia, COVID-19 was an enemy of society that is still fighting with issues related to refugees from wars of the nineties, internally displaced persons from Kosovo and Metohija, people who survived floods and many other groups of people who are struggling for everyday life.

Sanda is a daughter of parents who were fired on the same day by the same employee. It happened during COVID-19, and since then they are trying to find new jobs. For father, it is easier, being ready to work hard, usually outside in the field. For a mother of three, it is not that easy to be actively involved in earning money for the family.

Sanda is at university, studying to be on her own and be independent, even supporting her parents and siblings. From the beginning of COVID-19, she has been living in a dormitory, in students’ facilities, and the only money she can rely on is those that we are sending.

We know it is not much, but Sanda is happy with it, always grateful and never forgetting that it would be impossible for her to continue education if there was not you, supporting Pomoc deci, and us, supporting her before, after and especially during COVID-19.

Let`s still be there for Sanda while she`s trying to find her place in academic society, being better every year. She sent us a photo to see what her semester looks like.

We are proud of her, being so diligent, motivated and happy, no matter the circumstances.

And we are proud of you for being kind when there are so many options, when people don`t pay attention to others, when we are busier and lonelier than ever before.

Thank you for being there for those who take it as a gift from the heart, to grow, to love and to share kindness once received from you.

Traveling Together after Pandemic

Dear friends,

During corona pandemic, most of us were in the same position. People were alone, without many gatherings, mostly working from home. As for the children, it looks like they survived several years of their precious childhood in a strange manner. Without the social media and internet, they would miss several years of growing up for sure. This way, it looked like they were in touch. Children were not going to school, and not to mention some other school or preschool activities that we all enjoyed in. For example, excursions, traveling together, visiting new places, cities they have never been to before.

When it all slow down, and it was possible to start school year and all activities looked like before, we from Pomoc deci decided to find a way to organize two-day excursions for fifty children from four high schools from the south of Serbia. Some of them could not travel with school at all, because of the three corona years that came their way. So, for them it was a first trip anywhere, and for most of them, a first time traveling alone, without parents.

Especially we were happy when in Belgrade, high school students presented the four best projects that we selected. Over fifty high school students visited Belgrade were from Serbian cities in the south of a country: Technical school in Bujanovac, Technical school in Surdulica, and Technical school and Medical school in Vranje. Students had an opportunity to visit Jevremovac Botanical Garden, Nikola Tesla Museum and many more interesting spots in the city, driving and walking for the first time streets of a capital of Serbia. We are sure that these moments they will remember with a smile forever.

This trip was special because it was an award for their hard and diligent work on ecological projects they were involved in and that they worked on for months to preserve nature around them. One project was cleaning a lake`s shore, other cleaning and planting trees and flowers in the schoolyard, third was putting containers across town for putting away recycled material and the fourth putting feeding machine for angry dogs, so they stop being dangerous and hungry anymore.

Friendship, youth activism, ecology and caring for the environment and for each other - these are the values we build together!

Thank you for supporting us all the way and making so many children happy and most of them traveling for the first time outside their home town!
