As COVID-19 sweeps the world, LGBTIQ+ communities in India are be particularly vulnerable. LGBTQ+ people experience various health disparities which magnify the impact that COVID-19 could have on these communities. Barely able to access health facilities, these people are hanging on by a thread. We plan to support economically weak sexual minorities and transgender persons across Andhra and Telangana with groceries and nutritional supplements in order to feed them and improve their immunity.
There are currently more than 2000 people belonging to the LGBTQ+ communities in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and living below poverty line. Because of lockdown conditions and social distancing, these people have lost their livelihood and access to healthcare opportunities. Amidst this lockdown, most of the community members are restricted to spend time in unsupportive environments where they are facing constant rejections and isolation, resulting in increased poverty and health disparities.
This project will provide Grocery Kits worth Rs. 1000 each to the members of the LGBTQI community in Andhra and Telangana. The food consisting of Rice, Lentils, Edible Oil, Sugar, Salt, Tea Powder, Turmeric and Jaggery etc and nutrition supplements will ensure these people do not face starvation, isolation and exposure to infection. Your gesture will give them hope and assurance that these people are cared for and are important part of our society. This will help them get back to normal soon.
The long term impact of your kindness is that the LGBTQ+ members avoid starvation and isolation. They feel they are as important a part of society as the rest of us are. By empowering them to live lives with respect and confidence, you will be helping to enable them to become agents for social change. Your contribution will help create a just society.
