Te Aud Romania plans to develop a therapy practice, with a specialised team of counsellors available at any point in time to provide counselling to orphans and disadvantaged children with severe emotional trauma. We will develop a system of referral with schools (primary through high school) and with orphanages to identify children who need help the most. Our goal is to provide 300 orphans and disadvantaged children in Romania, Suceava county with in-depth counselling, to help them heal.
Around 1400 children, mostly from deprived households, are abandoned each year in Romania. The problem is worst in rural areas. In Suceava County, roughly 1755 orphans live in 11 orphanages and family-type homes. 1 in 5 children and families live below the poverty line. The combination of emotional pain, deprivation, and low education often sets them on a destructive path in life. As adults, many perpetuate the vicious cycle of poverty. TAR will provide in-depth counselling to help them to heal.
TAR will run a therapy practice, with programmes for orphans and disadvantaged children who have suffered physical and emotional abuse. TAR will measure their emotional and social wellbeing, behaviour, academic attainment and progress. Each child will have a weekly therapy session for 3 months. The therapist will decide if a longer-term programme is needed. This will help the children improve their confidence, social and academic performance and overcome their emotional traumas.
The in-depth counselling program will offer therapy programmes to 300 orphans and disadvantaged children, allowing them to overcome their emotional and behavioural issues, prevent school abandonment and perform better in school. The long-term impact is not only to integrate them within the community, but at the same time give them a fighting chance for a better life. By helping them build a stronger character, the vicious cycle they have been perpetuating will be stopped.
