Guiding Futures: Career Counselling

By Gabriela Popescu | Project Leader

In a world where educational and career decisions shape the trajectory of young lives, access to informed guidance is not a luxury—it is a necessity. The 2025 edition of the Pasi spre Viitor (Steps Toward the Future) project, implemented by Te Aud România, reaffirmed this principle by offering structured counselling and career orientation to 400 lower secondary school students from rural areas of Suceava County. This initiative, part of the third edition of the Solutii pentru Comunitate campaign, was designed to support students in the critical transition from lower to upper secondary education, equipping them with the tools to make informed and confident decisions about their academic and professional futures.

The primary objective of Pasi spre Viitor is to foster self-awareness and career readiness among rural youth by providing them with access to professional counselling services. The project targets students in the final years of lower secondary education, a pivotal stage where the absence of structured guidance can lead to uncertainty, disengagement, or premature school dropout.

Through a combination of individual and group sessions, the project aimed to:

  • Enhance students’ self-knowledge and self-assessment skills.
  • Help students identify their strengths, interests, and aptitudes.
  • Provide clear and accessible information about high school profiles and career paths.
  • Encourage informed decision-making aligned with each student’s unique potential.

For the 2025 edition, five educational institutions were selected to participate:

  1. Scoala Gimnaziala Constantin Blanaru, Cornu Luncii
  2. Scoala Gimnaziala Mitropolit Iacob Putneanul, Putna
  3. Scoala Gimnaziala Vatra Moldovitei
  4. Scoala Gimnaziala Paltinoasa
  5. Scoala Gimnaziala Râsca

Across these schools, 400 students engaged in a structured programme that included:

  • Career orientation sessions tailored to the developmental stage and socio-economic context of each participant.
  • Occupational profile assessments to help students understand their vocational inclinations.
  • Self-awareness workshops designed to build confidence, emotional intelligence, and decision-making skills.
  • Information sessions on the importance of career planning and the educational pathways available after lower secondary school.

These activities were facilitated by trained counsellors and educators, in collaboration with school staff and community stakeholders.

The Pasi spre Viitor project has been a cornerstone of Te Aud România’s educational mission since 2015. To date, it has reached over 3,000 students across 31 schools in Suceava County. The 2025 edition continued this legacy by addressing a critical gap in rural education: the lack of accessible, high-quality career guidance.

As George Istrate, CSR Manager at Synevo România, aptly noted, “In the absence of a structured framework for career orientation, the end of lower secondary school can become a turning point that determines whether a student continues their education. We are proud that our financial support is helping 400 rural children discover their aptitudes and choose the high school path that best suits their profile.”

By investing in the personal and academic development of rural youth, Pasi spre Viitor is not only guiding students toward suitable educational choices—it is laying the foundation for long-term social and economic empowerment. As project coordinator Oana Vasiliu emphasized, “We want to give students the chance to know themselves better, to discover their potential, and to make informed choices for their educational future. We firmly believe that every child deserves the support needed to build a professional path aligned with their aspirations and abilities.”

Through this initiative, Te Aud România continues to demonstrate that meaningful change begins with opportunity, guidance, and belief in the potential of every child.

Thank you to everyone part of this amazing initiative!
