Summary

COVID 19 poses a further threat to 120 teenage mothers to school in the Tuna district which has over 350 teenage mothers out of school. Studies have established that improvements in enrollment, retention and completion of school going age children have been in favor of boys. Use of hygiene education practices, containment measures and Relief packages on COVID 19 will lead to reduction of COVID 19 to allow for enrollment of girl school drop outs and increase enrollment in the project district.

Challenge

After decades of implementing the Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education program in the Northern Region, studies have established that improvements in enrollment, retention and completion of school going age children have been in favor of boys. These have not significantly impacted on the education of the girl-child.Several factors account for this ; school and community, social/religious . COVID 19 has come to worsen the case. Ghana case count is 8, 297 confirmed 2986 Recoveries 38 deaths

Solution

The project will hold Community sensitization / hygiene education sessions targeting parents on enrollments, spread of COVID 19 and how to mitigate its infection . Will engage school community, general public through trainings, information ,education and communication in prevention of COVID 19 and ensure containment and mitigation measures are strictly adhered .It will also Inform /educate /empower girls to assert rights. And Support children with disability to assert rights

Long-Term Impact

The project will cause increased enrollment, retention and completion of 120 girls .reduced spread and cases of COVID 19, Widespread frequent hand washing and use of hand sanitizers and adoption of good hygiene practices and observing Ghana Health Service risk reduction protocols of COVID 19 and containment measures. Ultimately letting the girl child become competitive in the job market and provide for their families' basic needs.
