Half million Georgians live in mixed-status families. There are over 300,000 undocumented individuals in GA. These are tax-paying friends will not receive the economic stimulus and don't qualify for any safety net programs. No Medicaid,no WIC or food stamps, no unemployment benefits. These are essential workers. Cleaning hospitals, caring for our babies and elders, growing vegetables and cleaning chicken. They need food, a roof over their heads to survive. We want to help them survive.
Undocumented workers are at the core of may industries in Georgia: Agriculture, poultry, food & beverage,caregiving. These hard workers and tax-paying individuals are essential workers yet they lack the very basic protections as they do not qualify for any safety net programs. They are paid in cash and live day by day. Without income from construction, selling food or reduction of cleaning personnel and caregiving services due to the pandemic they literally have no way to feed themselves
We are working with 8 grassroots organizations across the state serving on the front lines of this epidemic and supporting families in crisis. These organizations are dedicated to providing food, emergency supplies and rental support to undocumented and mixed-status families, families without vehicles living with children and dependents with chronic conditions. We are regranting 100% of the dollars raised to these organizations so they can help these community members survive
Children will be fed and will continue to go to school. Workers will be able to continue to go to work, babies will survive
