This project will help provide relief - including food + sanitary packages and an emergency fund - for Imani Collective artisans in Kenya who, in light of COVID-19, are unable to safely quarantine or provide for their families over the next several weeks. Imani Collective is a socioeconomic empowerment program focused on creating dignified jobs and taking a holistic approach to empowerment for more than 100 artisans in Mombasa, Kenya.
Restrictions for COVID-19 quarantine will soon make it impossible for our artisans to work and earn an income for their families. Most live day-to-day and don't have savings to bulk-purchase necessities, especially with increasing market costs that are arising due to the current pandemic and locust swarms in northern Kenya. Until they are able to resume work, our artisans will have no way to provide for basic food + sanitary needs, or any health care or shelter costs that could be incurred.
This project will provide basic food + sanitary packages, as well as an emergency relief fund, to help our artisans and their families survive the next several weeks, until they are able to return to work.
Once COVID-19 is no longer a concern, artisans will be able to resume their dignified jobs with Imani Collective, through which they will continue receiving holistic care and opportunities to plan and save for their families long-term. This relief effort will enable our artisans to stay safe and healthy until this happens.
