Last year, NYF launched many initiatives to empower women and children in response to COVID-19. One of such was an emergency shelter and quarantine center for women. Thanks to your loving support, we’re proud to report that we have been able to provide 38 women with shelter and a safe, comfortable space to complete their quarantine. Here is just one of many stories:
When *Nishita (far left), age 27, tested negative for COVID-19 at the Nepalese border, she was relieved. After being stranded abroad without income since March, she assumed her negative test meant she could travel directly home to her family.
So, when Nishita learned about the mandated 14-day quarantine for anyone coming into Nepal—even people who tested negative for the virus—she was extremely frustrated. Fortunately, NYF put a lot of effort and love into preparing a special quarantine space for women. Women staying here, like Nishita, receive a welcome package including toiletries and other daily necessities. Plus, nutritious meals based on a menu designed by an NYF dietician, and two virtual sessions through NYF’s Ankur Counseling Center. They also have access to 24-hour nursing care.
On Nishita’s last day of quarantine, she expressed sadness about leaving. She told us at the end of her stay that she felt right at home. We’re so glad she enjoyed her stay, and was able to safely return to her family.
At NYF, we are proud to have been able to provide Nishita and other women like her with an enjoyable, calming experience during their mandatory quarantine period.
We’re eager to continue this loving work in 2021, and invite you to be a part of this movement by making a gift today. Eligible gifts up to $50 (per unique donor per organization) made between today and March 12 will be matched at 50% by GlobalGiving!
