Aarogya Seva will be using the 3D printers they have stationed in various 3D-printing satellite centers across India to begin 3-D printing face shields, masks, ear guards and various other parts for medical equipment that is in high demand in the current COVID-19 pandemic.
In the current COVID-19 pandemic, there is a short supply of medical equipment in medical facilities for medical professionals working in high-risk care settings. The health and safety of medical personnel and frontline health workers is of the utmost importance in ensuring that the COVID-19 pandemic subsides and the health of communities are maintained.
For phase 1, we will be 3-D printing face shields with the primary intent of supplying to Victoria Hospital and other health institutions with an expressed need in Bangalore, India. Simultaneously we are going to be doing a needs assessment to understand and determine the needs for other components like ventilator parts, splitting valves, etc and use 3D printing to meet those needs appropriately. As the COVID-19 pandemic unfolds, we will be able to match the demand for medical equipment.
This project will provide at least 1700 medical personnel with 3-D printed face masks/ shields/ ear guards to be protected during their work in high-risk healthcare settings. This will ensure that the healthcare system continues to function optimally to prevent and treat COVID.
