Palestinian Territories is under a chronic state of emergency, characterized by a permanent conflict, a deep socio-economic crisis and a very high unemployment rate(45%). Moreover, it does not exist any form of social welfare and not even aid plans and services for most vulnerable people. The public health system is very weak due to the limited number and range of health care services provided. There is a high risk that Bethlehem will lack the resources to cope with the current health emergency.
The project will support most disadvantaged people by activating an emergency phone-number to remain available to help people in need, providing medical assistance to vulnerable families, covering medical expenses to abandoned elderly people welcomed in one of the few private care homes presented in Bethlehem and by involving a team of vulnerable women in a sewing project of protective face masks aims at producing PPE difficult to find and creating for them and their families a new way of income
After the end of the project, the emergency phone-number will remain operative to enhance the health and social care delivery. The direct beneficiaries of health assistance will receive instructions on how to use PPE and on the hygienic-sanitary rules. This will raise their awareness on how to face the emergency and live more safely. Lastly, 10 women will learn a trade and increase their skills in tailoring. This enhances their possibilities to find a related job and be economically independent.
