End of Financial Year sees growth in demand

By Hannah Luxford | National Partnerships Manager

At least a third of Australian households (36%)* experiencing moderate to severe food insecurity in the past year* reminds us that anyone can struggle to put food on the table.

With 79%* of Australians in need naming the continued rising cost of living as the main reason for seeking food relief, food insecurity continues to affect households that it has not touched before. In the past year alone, Foodbank has sourced more than 92 million meals and continues to see a rise in demand.

The cost of living can be felt by many, including people like Sarah^ from Queensland, who is a full-time carer for her son. “We could usually manage to get through the fortnight, but in the last year or so, with all the price hikes, we can’t come close to that, most nights now I don’t eat because we can’t afford to buy it”. Unfortunately, this is not uncommon across Australia, with Foodbanks across the country reportingmore and more experiences like Sarah’s.

Not only does the increased cost of living affect everyday Australians, but it’s costing us more to source, produce, store and transport food against the backdrop of increasing demand. We need your support now more than ever, to help people like Sarah put food on the table for their families. Donate before the End of the Financial Year (30 June) to help support those in need. Remember - every $1 creates 2 nutritious meals for someone trying to feed their family

The rising cost of living is impacting everyday Australians and driving up our expenses to source, produce, store, and transport food, all while demand continues to grow. Now, more than ever, we need your support to help families like Sarah's put food on the table. Donate before the End of the Financial Year (30 June) to make a difference. Every $1 you give provides 2 nutritious meals for someone in need. Your contribution matters.

From all of us at Foodbank, thank you.
