Covid19 has disrupted Education and Sporting activities across the world with the Tokyo 2020 Olympics postponed to 2021. The poor slum families are the worst hit by the pandemic with loss of jobs and livelihoods pushing many to go without critical basic needs like water and food which are dire for covid19 survival. This project targets to provide e-learning to 500 kids in slums by six mentors. Provide 5 Posho Mills and 5 Soap making machines to provide nutrition and soap making for hand-washing.
Covid19 has disrupted Education and Economic activities resulting in loss of jobs and livelihoods for slum dwellers in Nairobi slums. slum dwellers lack digital devices and are unable to buy bundles. Loss of jobs and livelihoods means lack of proper nutrition exacerbating malnutrition. Covid19 needs proper hygience and social distancing which is a problem in the congested slums with poor who cannot finance the hygiene measures. They lack soap, water, water tanks and the masks to keep them safe.
Assist in provision of digital devices, bundles and the learning content putting the slum children at par with others in Kenya. The soap making and posho mill projects will provide income generation to the poor while providing continuous supply of cheap soap for hand-washing and proper nutrition by milling various foods and mixing them into proper nutritious foods. This will also provide a market to farmers who are marooned with farm produce. We shall organize how this will reach the slums.
The project is designed with sustainability in mind. Provision of digital devices and introduction of digital learning will deal with digital exclusion in the slums permanently. Soap making and posho mills are income generation activities that will also confer permanency in handwashing with soap which addresses hygiene problems and rids of diseases like diarrhoea, cholera and typhoid among others reducing the disease burden beyond covid19. The motorbikes will offer transport for long.
