Challenge

The economic consequences of covid-19 have ended up hurting more people in rural Kenya than the disease itself. The most affected being the orphaned and vulnerable children living with the elderly. These Vulnerable households with food insecurity are generally more vulnerable and less prepared for an epidemic outbreak of this nature and is more likely to experience higher mortality rates, high malnutrition and vulnerability to the disease. They cannot afford food especially at this tough times.

Solution

This project will solve the problem from two angles. Firstly it will provide these households with well balanced diet food for their nutrition to keep them alive and keeping them healthy. Secondly, we will provide bars of hand washing soaps to each household to use together with the adapted buckets in sanitizing regularly and prevent any likely spread of the COVID-19 among these orphans who live in crowded homes. We shall also provide essentials for safety like face masks to protect them.

Long-Term Impact

These children will have access to the basic relief food for their nutrition and would grow up healthily and continue with their education to be good citizens in the near future. They would be able to reduce the risk of contracting COVID-19 out of their homes and will also adopt more healthy WASH habits. Even after the project, these children would have adopted long term hand sanitization and healthy habits that will be helpful in schools or other public spaces in the village.
