The COVID-19 crisis has been affecting everyone's way of living, but it is especially difficult for people who are already vulnerable. Association for Aid and Relief, Japan (AAR Japan) is supporting persons with disabilities (PWDs) in Japan by providing hygiene items such face masks and other sanitary items to protect themselves.
PWDs often have pre-existing medical conditions which put them at higher risk of becoming severe conditions if infected with the COVID-19. PWDs, especially persons with physical impairments have higher needs in hygiene items such face masks and other sanitary items to protect themselves.
AAR Japan is providing sanitary items such as masks and disposal gloves to the Disabled People's Organizations (DPOs) and facilities for persons with disabilities. For example, patients of Kidney diseases need masks for dialysis treatment.
As a medium to long-term response, AAR Japan plans to assist persons with disabilities in Japan, by continuously providing masks and sanitary goods, for they are consumption articles and needed to be purchased periodically. In addition, AAR Japan will contribute to support persons with disabilities by promoting their participation to their daily social activities or work at facilities and workshops for persons with disabilities.
