The critical winter season in Pakistan starts from mid-December to mid-January every year. Populations below the poverty line; hit by cold and Covid-19 pandemic this winter will end up in critical situation. Children of daily wagers will be prone to food scarcity and winter chills. To cater reality of approaching winter and food insecurity, PMS will provide food ration packs and winter clothing for greater social well-being by sharing hope and solidarity with impoverished children.
40% of Pakistan's population falling below the poverty line due to which children continue to face uncertainty of Covid-19, who early on faced food shortage in poor households. These kids are traumatised because of financial stocks and lay-offs with reduced earning opportunities for adults in their families that has raised food crisis and winter vulnerability among children. The 2nd wave of Covid-19 will push back marginalised kids in the poorest of the poor families living in Islamabad slums.
The 2020 emergency crisis driven by lockdowns and economic collapse has hard-pressed poor households by eroding their minimal livelihoods options, exasperating hunger, and poverty. The target slum dwellers will have food to eat and overcome malnutrition. Likewise; winterized clothes will help children to survive harsh winter, and with a fed stomach there will be reduced chances of getting sick for children, thus social well-being will ensure three meals a day for the poor kids and families.
The project will provide sustenance needs of staple food items that will ensure 3 meals a day of a family, as we reach up to 500 households. Crack a Smile would contribute in promoting food intake especially for malnourished children, living in the slums of Islamabad. We aim to restore smile on the faces of impoverished children through a ray of hope ensuring food security and winterised essentials to enhance the well-being of children during clod chill of winter for Islamabad and Lahore.
