Will train on bags, beads, craft shoe, tailoring, hair dressing, bakery and home based financial management to create jobs for 600 unemployed young women and girls.To address GBV and prohibitive cultural norms that lead to early marriages, teenage pregnancies and no say or owning economic assets by women and girls, advocacy meetings with different leaders and awareness creation on women rights will be conducted. To empower them on advocacy, training on leadership and Human Rights will be done.
According to National Population and Housing Census 2014, Pader district has 178,004 people.91,369 (51.3%) are women and 23,197 (56.7%) who are 18 years and above are illiterate. There is also high rate of Gender Based Violence, 2,352 cases yearly. Prohibitive cultural norms where women and girls are not allowed to own economic assets and girls are married off at an early age of 15 years old. Besides, COVID-19 pandemic lock down have led to loss of jobs and rise in teenage pregnancies.
The project will train the unemployed young women and girls in Pader district on life skills. The trainings include bags, beads, bungles, craft shoe, tailoring and garment cutting, hair dressing, bakery, Home Based Financial Management, leadership skills and Human Rights Based Approach. By acquiring these skills, the young women and girls will not only be able to set up income generating activities to earn a decent living but also advocate for their rights hence self-reliance.
600 young women and girls will be empowered to overcome the challenges of unemployment, teenage pregnancies, and prohibitive cultural norms by establishing income generating activities, participating in decision making at family and community levels hence become role models for other women and girls from their community to follow and contribute towards transforming their community in a positive way.
