The Virtues Project: A Movement of The Heart in Fiji
![]()
Overview
The Virtues Project (TVP) Fiji continues to strengthen Fijian communities by fostering resilience, hope, and character development. Through strategic partnerships and grassroots engagement, the program is providing essential life tools to those in the most vulnerable sectors of society.
The Daulomani Safe Home: A Model for Transformation
Established seven years ago near Lautoka, the Daulomani Safe Home serves as a sanctuary for individuals transitioning from mental health facilities, those recovering from addiction, the elderly, and the homeless.
- The Partnership: Following a successful introduction by VPIA volunteer Val Hilliker, the home transitioned from introductory sessions to weekly deep-dive meetings.
- Sustainable Growth: During the home's 7th anniversary, VPIA Chairman Shawn Watson Minaldi visited the facility. In a move toward long-term sustainability, residents and staff have requested official Facilitator Training to ensure the Virtues Project becomes a permanent pillar of their organizational culture.
Expanding Reach: The Daulomani Boys Home
Reflecting the program's proven success, the World Health Organization (WHO) requested the introduction of The Virtues Project at the Daulomani Boys Home in Ba. This expansion highlights the global recognition of TVP’s impact on family dynamics and youth development in high-need environments.
Empowering Women and Protecting Families
We continue to conduct outreach with women’s groups nationwide, focusing on the Five Strategies of The Virtues Project. These workshops provide practical tools for:
- Family Leadership: Strengthening the bond between parents and children.
- Crisis Prevention: Equipping mothers to protect their children from the current drug epidemic in Fiji.
- Ending Violence: Addressing the ongoing challenges of violence against women and children by replacing fear with the virtues of respect, strength, and hope.
Conclusion
The Virtues Project Fiji is more than a training program; it is a movement of the heart. By empowering local facilitators and supporting community leaders, we are ensuring that the virtues of hope and strength remain accessible to those who need them most.
