Abaco Strong continues to focus on improving the well-being of vulnerable individuals and families through initiatives that promote health, food security, youth development, and community resilience.
In March, Abaco Strong partnered with the World Cataract Foundation, Liquid Legacy, and the Ministry of Health to host cataract screening and surgical clinics for residents of Abaco. Together, the teams successfully completed 100 cataract and pterygium surgeries, restoring sight and improving quality of life for patients across the islands.
More than 200 individuals were screened during the clinics, with approximately 90 additional patients identified as suitable candidates for surgery during the team's next visit. Patients represented communities throughout Abaco and the wider Bahamas, reflecting the widespread need for accessible ophthalmic care. These clinics continue to address a critical healthcare gap by providing life-changing services at little or no cost to patients.
In April, Abaco Strong conducted its first Easter Food Distribution, providing grocery parcels to 40 familiesexperiencing financial hardship. Working with trusted community partners, we identified households most in need, prioritizing seniors, single-parent families, and individuals facing medical or economic challenges. Each parcel was thoughtfully assembled with essential food staples, personal care items, and household necessities. In addition, every family received the ingredients needed to prepare a homemade Easter meal to share with family members, friends, caregivers, or neighbors.
This initiative not only helped relieve financial pressure during the Easter season but also encouraged families to celebrate together, fostering a sense of community, dignity, and hope.
As we move forward, Abaco Strong remains committed to expanding access to healthcare, increasing food security initiatives, strengthening youth and family programs, and creating opportunities that foster healthier, more resilient communities.
Thank you for believing in our mission and for making this work possible. Your partnership continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the individuals and families we serve.
