This project provides professional protection and trauma counseling, legal support and shelter to survivors of human trafficking, rape and domestic violence at a safe house near the Thai-Cambodian border.
CTC provides care and protection to survivors of trafficking, sexual abuse, and domestic violence through trauma therapy, skills-training, and social and legal assistance. Women and girls are much more vulnerable than men and boys in the communities where we operate. Gender inequality impacts social, economic and private life and can be a huge barrier-- one that holds young women and girls back from reaching for their dreams and spawns darker injustices like gender-based violence and abuse.
Lotus Outreach gives survivors of sexual violence the opportunity to participate in individual and group counseling in a safe environment where they can heal from their trauma and reclaim their dignity, self-worth, and overall mental health. The project supports the reintegration of survivors into their communities when possible. The project also includes start-up awards for adult women to begin their own businesses and gain financial independence from their abusers.
Programs that supply professional counseling for victims of sex crimes are known to reduce related concerns like post-traumatic stress disorder, addiction, and suicide. The reintegration of these women, after the healing process they undergo, as productive actors in their communities also benefits Cambodia as a whole. These women become advocates for women's rights, as an undeniable embodiment that a culture that views survivors of violence and trafficking as "damaged goods" is absolutely false.
