Daily Nutritious Lunch to Rural School Children

There is something deeply meaningful about children gathering together to share a nutritious meal at school.

In rural Tororo District, Eastern Uganda, your support is helping make those moments possible for more than 400 primary school learners throughout an entire school term.

Development Alert recently distributed food items to support the school feeding program. The supplies will help ensure that children have access to nutritious meals during their school day, addressing an important challenge faced by many rural schools where regular meals are not consistently available.

But the impact of a school meal goes beyond the food itself.

Mealtimes can create opportunities to teach children about hygiene, cleanliness, balanced nutrition, and healthy habits. Before eating, learners can be reminded about handwashing and safe food practices. Through simple conversations, children can learn why different foods are important and how good nutrition supports their growth and well-being.

These lessons can travel home.

A child who learns about handwashing may remind a younger sibling. A learner who understands the importance of nutritious foods may share that knowledge with parents. In this way, a school feeding program can become a starting point for broader community awareness.
