Dakhla's SOS Village Enters a New Chapter

By Hanae Akrim | Partnerships Monitoring and Compliance Manager

We are happy to share an important milestone in the journey of the new SOS Children's Village in Dakhla: the Village is preparing for its official inauguration at the end of October 2026!

After months of construction, planning, and preparation, what once existed only on paper is becoming a real place where children will find safety, care, and a sense of belonging.

As this important moment approaches, our teams are working hard to make sure the Village is ready. However, we also want to be transparent with everyone who has supported us along the way.

Our fundraising campaign has not yet reached its initial goal. With the opening approaching, we cannot afford to wait until all the necessary funds have been raised. We are therefore doing our best to mobilize our available resources and explore alternative solutions to secure what is most urgently needed before the Village opens.

These efforts are allowing us to move forward, even though our fundraising journey is not yet complete.

While significant progress has been made, we are continuing to assess the Village's needs and priorities to ensure that the children are welcomed in the best possible conditions.

This is why your support continues to matter.

Through this GlobalGiving campaign, we hope to raise additional funds to help cover the remaining needs as they are identified and gradually complete the preparations necessary to make the Village a welcoming and nurturing environment for children.

The inauguration will mark a beautiful milestone, but it is not the end of our journey. Creating a home goes beyond opening its doors. It means making sure children have what they need to feel safe, comfortable, supported, and truly at home.

To everyone who has already contributed, shared our campaign, or followed our progress: thank you for being part of this journey.

And to those discovering our project today, there is still an opportunity to make a difference.

The doors of the Village are almost ready to open. Together, we can help make what lies behind those doors feel like home.
