When Valerie emailed our crisis email in April she was distraught. She and her four-year old son Dylan were being abused by her husband. Valerie felt she had exhausted all of her options and didn't know what to do next. She had tried counseling with her husband as a last-ditch effort to help him understand how his abuse was impacting her and their son.
Counseling didn't work. Her husband was the perfect gentleman in front of the counselor, then he would mock her on the way home telling her no one would ever believe her if she told anyone about the abuse.
Over time, our crisis email advocate helped Valerie create a safety plan. With her parents help, she was able to get home with Dylan last month.
