We are grateful to our expanding team of staff, volunteers and board members who use their talents every day, often under very stressful conditions, to impact the lives of thousands of American women, children and men abused in foreign countries. Our team of three case managers six advocates work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on very complex issues and for that we are blessed.
While we won't have the exact statistics until January 2013, we have provided danger to safety relocation to at least 20 victims plus their children in 2012 These cases of Americans abused overseas have increased in intensity, complexity and possible lethality including pregnant women, forced marriage and honor killings.
Angela is one such victim who arrived safelty back to the USA just this week. After working with Angela for over six months providing advocacy with the American Embassy, safety planning and emotional support, we provided funds for ariline flights from London to Chicago. We were able to arrange a "safe" contact for her and her son upon arrival and they are now safe in shelter. We will continue to work with Angela as she re-establishes her life in the USA.
Without the contributions of donors like you it would be impossible to meet the need to provide victims like Angela with danger to safety relocation that we experienced in 2012. Angela wrote in an email: "I feel I am waking up from a very long bad nightmare. I feel exhausted but free. I can't thank you enough."
In 2013 we envision peace in every home. A world where no child has to experience violence in the one place they should feel safe. Where they will learn to love and be loved with their self-esteem in tact.
Warmest wishes to you and your family for 2013.
