Happy New Year from all of us at DARE Network.

In Karen State, our DARE Centre is in full swing with over 30 clients attending addiction treatment. We still continue to receive the most severe cases, as there are no other humane resources for people, who want to stop using drugs. Unfortunately, if things continue as they are in Burma/Myanmar, we will always be busy.

In 2017, with your support, the DARE Centre was able to develop organic vegetable gardens offering stress relief to our clients and our workers. Working in the soil is very grounding, especially for people traumatized by war, violence and addiction.

Equally important is that the workers and clients were able to grow some of their own food, fresh and free from chemicals. This has a huge impact on the physical, emotional and psychological health of people in recovery from substance abuse

In our 2018 budget we were able to supplement our food budget with fresh vegetables, so that we realized a saving on food costs of $2000 USD. This is just the beginning. This year we are planting fruit trees and making a fishpond. We will be able to have fresh fish, and traditional foods such as fermented fish paste and fish sauce.

In addition to the gardens, clients whose families can afford it support the program with rice, which we share to all and supplement from our own supplies. At DARE Network, we will continue to develop food sustainability, in our Karen State treatment programs.

Thanks again from all us at DARE for your kind support to our work.
