Successful Goat Rotation to Help More Families in Tartoura Birkat Jaro Village!

By Sage Lancaster | Fundraising and Outreach Coordinator

Nimat's Goats
Nimat's Goats

The Goats you have provided across our 110 Kids for Kids Villages are ensuring nutritious milk for children who are suffering from a lack of protein and insufficient food to eat. You will know that our Goat Loan, our key sustainable project, is set up so that every two years five Kid Goats from each Kids for Kids flock are passed along to benefit another family in the village. Just last month the 2nd Goat Rotation for the village of Tartoura Birkat Jaro (which we adopted in 2021) was completed, and more families from the village received their very own goats.

37-year-old Nimat, mother of four children, received five goats in 2023. Over the past two years her flock has grown massively, and she had 23 goats last month before passing five of her youngest kid goats on so another family can begin to grow their own flock!  For two years, Nimat and her family have benefitted from protein-rich milk to drink, fresh from their nanny goats. They even had enough milk to share with their neighbours, so every child nearby also had nutritious milk to drink. Nimat has also been cooking with the milk - preparing food by mixing it with millet flour. She says this food is her children's absolute favourite!

Since August last year, Kids for Kids has been providing Kids Kitchen Kits to as many children as possible, along with seeds and urgently needed medical supplies when we are able. This remains our priority as children are starving, and no other organisation is providing help to families in the villages. But milk from the goats you have donated over the years continues to benefit malnourished children every day. And every two years even more families receive their very own goats as our sustainable Goat Loan continues to thrive. You are saving lives every day because you supported us to set up long-lasting grassroots projects that beneficiaries run themselves. Thank you!

Sadly, conditions in Darfur continue to be deeply distressing. On July 7th the UN reported: “The situation is particularly dire in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur province, which has witnessed some of the worst episodes of the ongoing conflict between rival militaries. Those remaining in El Fasher are facing “extreme shortages” of food and clean water, with markets repeatedly disrupted.”  Children are hungry and thirsty, and the risk of famine is becoming ever more severe. With food lacking in the towns, the villages are even more deprived. Yet Kids for Kids has already been able to reach 49 villages with Emergency Kitchen Kits and are now targeting 40 more. These kits include lentils, pulses, groundnuts and cooking oil for children aged five and under to drastically improve their health, as the conflict continues. We are desperately anxious to help children across these 40 villages. Thousands of children are going hungry, ignored by the rest of the world despite all we know of the appalling conditions.

Please will you continue to support our life-saving work and share news with your friends of all we are doing to help children in Darfur to survive?  Darfur is not in the news, and the world continues to ignore the ongoing atrocities. But Kids for Kids can reach children and provide aid right now - with your help. Children really need you, need us, right now. Thank you.
