25 Years of Empowering Women to Care for their Families

On Sunday 8th March 2026 Kids for Kids marked 25 Years of helping children in Darfur living in conditions of extreme poverty by providing access to basic food items, water, education, healthcare and more. Over a quarter of a century Kids for Kids has developed a whole package of sustainable projects to provide for villages, based on what communities tell us is most urgently needed.

Empowering women creates lasting change

Kids for Kids empowers women with the resources to feed their children and earn an income, often for the very first time. Through our Goat Loan initiative, mothers can provide their children with protein-rich milk to prevent malnutrition, while selling any excess at the market. With hospitals miles away across the desert, Kids for Kids established a midwife training programme in El Fasher, equipping two volunteers from each adopted village to deliver vital care in their own communities. Many women from our 110 villages have also been trained as first aid workers, supporting the health of their whole village while earning an income.

Kids for Kids Founder Patricia Parker OBE says: “When women control resources, they invest in food, education, and healthcare for their families. The impact is felt across entire communities.”

You have empowered women to provide essential healthcare in their own villages to neighbours and family.

Today the crisis in Sudan continues into its third year. Three years of violence, hunger and loss. The healthcare system across Sudan has virtually collapsed. Mothers wake up every day wondering how they will feed their children once more. When Kids for Kids was designed, 25 years ago, it was with the goal of remaining flexible, asking women in their villages what they needed the most. This structure and our dedicated team of volunteers in Darfur is the reason we are able to provide emergency aid and essential items, that keep mothers and children healthy and safe.

Today, you can feed a child, keep them warm at night, and safe from illness.
Can you donate an essential item?

  • Kids Kitchen Kit - lentils, pulses, groundnuts, cooking oil and more for families with children aged five and under - the most at risk.
  • A Goat - for milk rich in protein and nutrients to prevent malnutrition
  • Sack of Seed - to eat now and plant for future harvest
  • Medicine - to prevent treatable sickness in a country where the healthcare system has all but collapsed
  • Blankets - to keep children warm and safe from illness during the cold desert nights
  • Mosquito Nets - to protect families from malaria as they sleep
  • Bars of Soap - with cases of cholera and diphtheria increasing, soap means mothers can clean their little ones

Thank you for continuing to support our work however you can. Please can you share Kids for Kids with friends and colleagues?  With your help we can ensure more children have food to eat today during the 'world's worst humanitarian crisis' (UN). Your kindness shows families they are not forgotten.
