The Day Center, run by Mensajeros de la Paz, is a vital community resource, providing daytime care and support for elderly individuals who may be experiencing isolation, loneliness, or other personal difficulties. Located in the neighborhood of Floresta, within the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, the center has a dedicated team that offers not only companionship but also tailored care and activities, fostering a sense of belonging and connection among our seniors.
In Argentina, Elderly People are one of the most vulnerable groups in society. Many depend on minimum pensions to cover everyday expenses and have no direct family that can provide care for them. In this context, mental health plays a vital role. Loneliness, solitude, social exclusion, and feelings of abandonment can be catastrophic for the lives of our seniors. The Day Center aims to provide a space for elderly adults to find care, compassion, love, and friendship among themselves.
The Day Center assists more than 20 elderly individuals every day, who engage in activities promoting active aging. It enhances personal well-being and the quality of life for older adults, fostering social connections among those who attend the center. We conduct various workshops, including memory stimulation, human rights, artistic and creative activities, computer skills, and yoga. Additionally, participants receive three daily meals, designed by a team of nutritionists.
Regular engagement in activities and social interactions can contribute to sustained mental and emotional well-being among elderly participants, reducing the risk of mental health issues associated with isolation and loneliness over the long term. Workshops and activities focused on memory stimulation, creative endeavors, and computer skills aim to contribute to cognitive retention and skill development. Additionally, the project strengthens community connections and social ties.
