The project will establish two Safe Daycare & Early Childhood Development Centres in Terego District and Arua City, serving refugees and host families equally. Each daycare class (ages 0-3) hosts 25 children per caregiver, operating 8:00 AM-12:30 PM daily. Nursery (ages 3-6) follows the same schedule. By Year 3, centres expand to primary learners (max 40 per class). Sustainability is ensured through parent fees and joint donor/investor support.
In Terego District and Arua City, workingclass parents, including refugees and host families, lack safe, affordable childcare. Most preschools operate 3-5km away, leaving parents without reliable support during the workday. Children ages 0-6 miss structured care and early learning, entering primary school unprepared and perpetuating poor outcomes.
This project will establish two Safe Daycare & Early Childhood Development Centres in Terego District and Arua City, offering safe, structured care and learning for children ages 0-6. Classes meet Ugandan standards (25 per caregiver in daycare, 40 in primary) and run daily from 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM. Children progress from daycare to nursery to primary, ensuring school readiness. Sustainability is achieved through parent fees and joint donor/investor support.
The centres will improve school readiness for children ages 0-6, reduce dropout rates, and strengthen family resilience by supporting working parents. Refugee and host communities gain equal access to safe, structured education. Over time, this builds stronger human capital, promotes social cohesion, and creates a sustainable model funded by parent fees and donor/investor partnerships.
