The Erosion of Reproductive Rights Under Trump

By Alexa Telano | Manager of Development

Telling meaningful stories is the first step toward change. Bringing awareness to abuses that might be overlooked, and atrocities that repeat themselves throughout history, is paramount to what we do. A week into the Trump Administration, women's health care has already been significantly impacted. On January 24, 2025, four days into his presidency, President Donald Trump reinstated the "Global Gag Rule”. This is a policy that cuts U.S. funding for international health organizations that provide abortion services, even in cases of sexual assault. This decision is expected to force many organizations to close completely or stop offering reproductive health care. On the same day, the U.S. State Department announced plans to rejoin the "Geneva Consensus Declaration," a controversial statement opposing reproductive rights and LGBTQ protections.

Unfortunately, the Trump administration has directed federal prosecutors to limit enforcement of the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act, a 1994 law protecting reproductive health centers and places of worship from harm and intrusion. A new Department of Justice (DOJ) memo restricts federal enforcement to only "extraordinary circumstances" involving death and severe injury leaving most cases to the police. On the same day as the annual March for Life rally, Trump pardoned 10 anti-abortion activists convicted under the FACE Act for blocking a Washington, D.C., clinic in 2020.

Simultaneously, online access to information on abortion was quietly reduced. Searches for “abortion” on the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) website now yield outdated results or display errors. Additionally, ReproductiveRights.gov, a website launched under Biden to provide information about abortion rights and resources, has been shut down.

There are ways we can all make an impact during this administration:

  • Donate to help those seeking abortion care
  • Donate to independent abortion clinics
  • Learn more about abortion laws in your state
  • Find out where all your lawmakers stand on abortion rights
  • Tell Congress to take immediate action to protect abortion access
  • Speak out if you can/if it is safe

3G continues to support reproductive health and rights through the power of film and outreach campaigns.
