Across generations and geographies, women’s bodies have been under control. Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) is among the least confronted forms of this violence. Often practiced under the guise of tradition or morality, it leaves millions of women living with lifelong pain and trauma. The harm is not only medical; it is deeply personal.
In April 2026, 3 Generations will begin filming THE KENYA PROJECT, a documentary focused on women’s reproductive rights and the life-restoring work of the Marci Foundation. Led by Dr. Marci Bowers, one of the few surgeons worldwide trained to perform the surgical reversal of FGM, the Foundation provides free to low-cost Clitoral Restoration Surgery for survivors of FGM/C. The foundation also trains the next generation of surgeons and raises public awareness about the consequences of genital cutting. The Marci Foundation seeks to lessen the effects of FGM/C by offering surgical care that restores sexual function and bodily integrity, training physicians around the world, and breaking the silence that allows the practice to persist.
THE KENYA PROJECT will document this work at its most human level. It will center the women who come forward for care, the trust required to seek treatment, and the cultural and social complexities surrounding FGM/C. It will bear witness to the quiet courage involved in reclaiming one’s body, as well as to the collaboration that makes this care possible: between international and local doctors, between medicine and activism, and between survivors and supporters.
These stories matter. They remind us that reproductive rights are not abstract ideals, but lived realities shaped by access, education, and compassion. Restoration, in this context, is an act of justice. 3 Generations continues to support reproductive health and rights, and to bear witness to women’s suffering and resilience in the face of the world’s darkest crimes.
