Anaesthesia for cleft lip and palate surgery carries a high risk as associated congenital anomalies further complicate the surgery. Though rare, life-threatening situations such as a cardiac arrest could arise while performing surgeries on children with cleft conditions under general Anaesthesia. A defibrillator would help a child to recover from these conditions and help these kids have a safer surgery.
Anaesthesia for cleft lip and palate surgery carries a high risk as associated congenital anomalies further complicate the surgery. Life-threatening situations such as a cardiac arrest could arise while performing surgeries on children with cleft conditions under general anesthesia. Cardiac arrest occurring in these situations could be due to various reasons such as associated heart disease or rarely due to problems related to breathing pre or post surgery. A Defibrillator can be the Life Saver!
We are raising funds for purchasing a defibrillator, a life-saving device, to make surgeries safe in our facility at Kolkata. This device, used to deal with the situation where the heart stops beating, is used to restart the heart and bring the patient back to life. Mission Smile is a not-for-profit organisation that provides surgeries free of cost to children with birth defects such as cleft lip or cleft palate.
With restoration of this life-saving device inside the operation theatre, we will be able to deal with the rare yet high risk situation of cardiac arrest. We can thus help more and more children by performing safe surgeries in our centre. Therefore, we appeal to you to contribute generously towards funding the purchase of a defibrillator which we propose to use in our Kolkata facility. We thank you for helping us in our effort to make such surgeries safe for children affected with cleft-related
