Summary

Japan's Tsunami victims are living in shelters or damaged neighborhoods without power or heat and running very short of basic necessities. SHINE HUMANITY arrived in Japan on March 18, and has been coordinating with partners and local officials in the port town of Ishinomaki ever since, providing logistical and operational support- delivering food, water, medicines and compassion to families living in shelters and helping to provide heating oil to citizens whose homes were spared but have no heat

Challenge

The tsunami wiped out cities, homes, shops, infrastructure and jobs resulting in an overwhelming emergency where even the government of Japan is still struggling to respond to severe shortages of fuel, food, bottled water, hygiene items and other basic necessities needed by the populations who are residing in shelters or heavily damaged neighborhoods. Small business owners, fisherman, dockworkers and so many others lost their livelihoods.

Solution

Shine Humanity will continue coordinating directly with Japanese officials and partners to deliver aid to the communities who need it most. Our response to the Tsunami in Sri Lanka, Hurricane Katrina, earthquake and flood disasters in Pakistan and The Haiti earthquake have given our organization a vast wealth of operational experience to successfully navigate the tough conditions and challenges brought about by a system-overwhelming disaster and quickly get aid to devastated families

Long-Term Impact

Our project is currently helping families living in shelters and devastated communities get the provisions they need to survive until they can begin rebuilding their homes, businesses, ports, towns and cities starting in the coming weeks and months. While we provide immediate aid, our team and partners have already begun identifying people who will need assistance in rebuilding their lives and livelihoods. We will provide assistance to them.
