The village leaders in a small remote village in NE Uganda asked for help to build a two classroom school for the first and second-graders. The 10 mile round trip walk to the nearest school was too far for these little ones. We successfully raised the funds to construct the two classrooms. We hope to have the grand opening in October. This project is to raise $3000 to purchase desks and blackboards for the new school. An education for these children is vital to give them a better future.
Most of the parents in this village do not read or write. The entire family and tribal history is passed down orally. They want a better life for their children so they see education as a key to that future.
By building a permanent school and equipping it with desks and supplies it will draw attention to the opportunity for education and encourage the parents to see that their children attend. It will get the young ones started in school.
Education is a key to so many things that will help these children. They will learn to read and write both in their own native language and later English. They will learn math skills, and they will learn about sanitation and hygiene. Today 10% of the children are reported to not live beyond age five.
