500 survived girls and widows of Anfal genocide operations who currently face toughest life situation in Kalar province in Iraq will be empowered through two pillars program: 1) developing their business skills and income generation training courses to earn their livings and 2) engage them in awareness raising, developing self-help groups and advocacy networking to disclose their case to the public to tackle their economic and social problems.
Women and girls who whom their husbands, fathers and brothers buried alive during Anfal processes in 1988-89 still suffer negligence, socially deprival, poverty, illiteracy and living under poverty line. Government allowances are stopped as Kurdistan Region undergoes political and economic crises and the woman-headed households facing toughest situation especially after spread of Covid-19 while they face healthcare shortage, dropout of their children school since they engage in street working.
The project works to develop skills of women and girls through: 1. Develop business skills to run small income-generating businesses as tailoring, handcrafts, running small shops, hairdressing 2. Provide micro grants to purchase sheep and goats, poultry, machinery after attending the training 3. Awareness raising training on women rights and advocacy 4. Develop self-help initiative to solve their issues together and networking to put pressure on decision makers also to gather community supports
This project works to develop business skills, raising awareness and building a long run initiative to enable the most underserved women and girls to secure a dignified human life for themselves. The knowledge gained secures sustainability of the efforts both economically and socially and allows the groups to play a better active role in their life and community as they come together and act on issues related to their own lives including health, nutrition, governance and gender justice.
