WHY YOU(TH)

By Kim Hackbarth | Boy with a Ball Staff

Contrary to the movies these days, our world isn’t saved through superheroes. In real life, the great problems facing the world right now - poverty, human trafficking, high school dropout rates and the like - have to be solved without the likes of Thor, Tony Starks or the Incredible Hulk. They are solved by everyday people like you.

When young people do not get the love they need or are forced to grow up in unsafe situations like extreme poverty, they become vulnerable to making dangerous choices. In Beirut, Lebanon, that might involve joining a radical terrorist group. In Baltimore, MD, USA, that looks alot more like riots and crime. In either case, we all pay a significant price.

At-risk young people are a city’s greatest issue. While the cost may come in the form of criminal activity, dangerous inner cities, law enforcement and social service costs today the far more expensive price tag comes in the future: Lost wages, taxes and possibilities of what these young people might have become. Our cities’ futures are being determined by what we are investing in our young people today. Hurting youth lead to damaged cities. Healthy youth lead to thriving cities.

Your support turns the threat of at-risk youth into a force for transforming their communities in cities across the world.

Thank you for helping turn our city's biggest problem into it's most powerful solution.
