Support religious leaders working in an interfaith setting to promote positive moral values and responsibilities among children and families to address the growing problem of child abuse and child pregnancy in Goshi location, Kilifi County of Kenya which is linked to poor parenting. This is also aimed to help children and families appreciate education and minimize the number of school dropouts to give the children a brighter future.
Kilifi County has been ranked third in a list of Kenyan Counties with high rate of Child pregnancies. Studies shows that 1 in 4 girls is affected by child pregnancy. In 2018, 14000 teen pregnancies were recorded. This has caused high school dropout and rise of delinquent children because of poor parenting and moral value development among children. Coast Interfaith Council of clerics has been addressing the problem and seeks more support since behavioral change requires more time.
Religious leaders working in an interfaith setting will offer guidance and counseling using interactive activities for both boys and girls to build in them moral value and responsible behavior that will reduce their vulnerability to child pregnancy. The religious leaders will also work with families (Father, mothers and guardians) to sensitize them on good parenting and value of education so that they can take up their responsibility actively.
1. Children in Goshi Location will develop good moral values and responsible behavior that will reduce their risk to child pregnancy 2. With reduced child pregnancy the children in Goshi Location will complete their O-level education and compete fairly in the job and business market. 3. 50 Families in Goshi Location take active roles and responsibilities to protect their children from harmful social and cultural activities that put them at risk of Child pregnancy.
