Worm Infections Harm Children in Riverine Slums

By Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri | Project Leader

Dear Donors,

Thank you for supporting the Deworm 5,000 Children in Lagos Riverine Slums project. We are grateful for your generosity and concern for children living in communities where poor sanitation and unsafe water continue to affect health and education.

Children living in riverine settlements such as Makoko face daily exposure to contaminated environments that increase their risk of worm infections. These infections can lead to stomach pain, weakness, poor nutrition, and difficulty concentrating in school. For many families, access to routine deworming services is limited, allowing infections to persist and spread within communities.

We sincerely appreciate the donations received so far. However, the available funds are not yet sufficient to begin project implementation. Additional support is needed before medicines, hygiene materials, logistics, and community outreach activities can be organized.

The project is designed to provide deworming treatment to 5,000 children through community-based health activities. In addition to treatment, parents and children will receive practical hygiene education to help reduce future infections. Simple preventive measures such as proper handwashing and improved sanitation awareness can make a meaningful difference in protecting children's health.

Poor health can affect a child's ability to learn, play, and attend school regularly. Reducing worm infections helps children remain healthier, more active, and better able to participate in their education and daily activities.

We remain committed to bringing this project to the communities that need it most. As more support becomes available, we look forward to sharing updates on implementation activities and the children who will benefit from this intervention.

Thank you for helping improve the health and future of vulnerable children living in Lagos riverine communities.

Warm regards,

Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri
