Children in Makoko riverine slums, Lagos, face frequent worm infections due to poor sanitation and dirty water. This causes stomach pain, weakness, and missed school. This project will deworm 5,000 children and provide hygiene education to stop future infections. Timely treatment helps children feel better, grow stronger, and stay in school.
In Lagos riverine slums, children are often exposed to unsafe water and poor sanitation, which leads to worm infections. These infections cause malnutrition, pain, and tiredness. Many children miss school or struggle to learn. Families in these areas can't afford regular deworming or health education, making the cycle of illness continue.
The project will provide free deworming tablets to 5,000 children through mobile health visits to riverine slums. Health workers will also teach parents and children how to prevent worm infections with simple hygiene steps. Children will receive handwashing soap, and health talks will be done in local languages for better understanding.
Deworming helps children grow stronger, attend school, and focus better. With fewer infections, families will spend less on treatment. Over time, repeated deworming and better hygiene can reduce the spread of worms in the community. This will lead to better health, learning, and improved living conditions for children and families in the long term.
