By Mamadou Kane and Liz Chandler | Diapalante Centre Co-ordinator and Trustee
Once again, thank you for your support which gives many people a better opportunity to achieve their goals. In this report Mamadou tells you a little about Lala, who has come to the Diapalante Community Education Centre several evenings a week since she first heard of Diapalante, using our resources to support her educational journey.
Though modest in size, the Diapalante Community Educational Centre holds a special place in the hearts of many. This is especially so for Lala, a 20-year-old student now in her final year of high school.
Lala lives with her mother, four brothers and her aunt, who is also her mother’s co-wife. Despite the challenges of growing up in a family with no father (he died some years ago) Lala has never let hardship stand in the way of her dreams. Her goal is to pass the baccalaureate and pursue university studies. She hopes to build a career that will allow her to improve life for her family.
Lala has been part of the Centre for eight years. With support from Diapalante, Lala has made impressive progress in English and credits the Centre’s personal development courses with helping her grow in confidence. She now feels comfortable speaking in front of groups, sharing her ideas, and taking part in debates. She has also gained valuable skills in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, all essential tools for both academic and professional success.
She is deeply grateful to the Centre’s coordinator and volunteers, calling Diapalante “a real opportunity for personal and professional growth.”
“Lala is a member of our Young Leaders group,” says Nafi, the Young Leader Activities Coordinator. “She regularly helps others with French, maths, writing, and more. Her patience and teaching skills make her popular with our learners. She is an example of the solidarity and sharing that we encourage in our Young Leaders.”
Lala is a shining example of how Diapalante can transform lives. We are proud to have supported Lala on her journey and seen Lala, in her turn, support other learners. We look forward to seeing what she will accomplish in the future.
