Digital hygiene workshops are provided in educational as well as community spaces to people across age groups and digital literacies to encourage them to take charge of their digital presence and security. The lessons are provided in a hands-on manner. We are also currently conducting Training of Trainers (ToT) to push the workshop into diverse groups and geographies.
Nepal has 15.85 million active internet users as of Jan 2023. Despite the increasing digital penetration, 2/3rd of the users are at severe risk of digital breaches and attacks. A significant digital divide exists across age groups, genders, education levels, socio-economic status, etc. Thus, many from underserved communities lack the skills to navigate digital spaces safely and protect their digital presence exposing them to online risks such as cyberattacks, privacy breaches & misinformation.
WLiT offers hands-on digital hygiene workshops focused on misinformation, online abuse, and password security for people of diverse socio-digital backgrounds to take control of their digital security promoting a safer and more informed digital community. Participants from previous workshops are invited to ToTs to extend the reach of the workshops. With our first ToT in 2022 for 15 trainers, we were able to conduct the workshops for 272 students from Grades 8 to 10 across 13 institutions.
The project will train 15 more potential trainers and reach 500 participants across age groups and geographies in the next year.
